Finance Assistant
We are seeking an organised, enthusiastic, and capable individual to join our busy and friendly school Finance Department.
The role offered is 30 hours per week during term time plus 10 weeks during school holidays.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented professional who enjoys working as part of a small, committed team. The successful candidate will support the Bursar in a range of financial and administrative tasks that are vital to the smooth running of the school’s operations.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day purchase ledger operations, including processing supplier invoices, reconciling statements, and ensuring timely payments.

Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to resolve invoice and payment queries promptly and professionally.

Assist in the preparation of documentation and reports for the annual audit, supporting auditors with relevant financial data and reconciliations.

Support the Bursar in monthly reporting tasks, including account analysis and reconciliations.

Help maintain accurate financial records and support compliance with internal controls and external regulations.

Assist with finance-related processes as required.

Contribute to the development and streamlining of financial procedures within the department.
Person Specification
Essential:
-
Previous experience in a finance or accounting environment.

Strong numeracy skills and attention to detail.

Excellent organisational and time management abilities.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and finance systems.

A proactive and flexible approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.
Desirable:
-
Experience working in a school or educational setting.

Familiarity with school finance systems or accounting software (e.g. Sage, SIMS, WCBS, Engage etc).

A finance-related qualification (e.g. AAT or part-qualified accountant) or working towards one.
